When it comes to homeless care centers it is important to make the guests feel safe and cared for as if it were their home. The design goal for this space, is to be youthful and comfortable but still durable. If the guests like the feeling they get from visiting the lighthouse, then they will come back.
The name of the lighthouse signifies a beam of light. It shows the homeless that it is a place to go when they are lost, just like a sailor at sea. This space will be guidance and support for any struggling people and families. This name will tell the people walking by that it is a place of safety from the natural environment.
The area outside will be place of relaxation. The many areas of greenery will help reduce stress and create a feeling of well-being. The area inside will be for warmth and safety. With the buildings 15 foot ceilings many things are possible to complete this design from floor to ceiling, adding visual interest to avoid boxy rooms and straight lines.
The Lighthouse is a non-profit organization that is able to be used by anybody in need. It is a place homeless people can go for help at any time of the day. They supply water, a safe place to rest, basic health needs, cleanliness, and encouragement from staff.
